Your birth details

Where was the Moon when you were born?

Use the recorded local time where possible. The birthplace time zone applies the historical offset and daylight-saving rules for that date.

Moon sign, Sun sign and Nakshatra are different.

They describe different astronomical reference points rather than interchangeable labels.

Chandra

Vedic Moon sign

The 30-degree sidereal Rashi occupied by the Moon at birth. This calculator reports the sign and degree directly.

Surya

Sun sign

The zodiac sign occupied by the Sun. It is not determined by the Moon and can differ from both your Moon sign and ascendant.

Birth star

Nakshatra

One of 27 smaller lunar mansions. A Nakshatra spans 13 degrees 20 minutes and adds a finer lunar position.

Why calculators can disagree.

Differences usually come from the zodiac reference, timezone handling or an uncertain birth time, not from the label alone.

Ovati presents a Vedic sidereal Moon sign. A Western tropical calculator can therefore show a different sign for the same moment.

Historical daylight-saving rules also matter. Selecting the birthplace time zone is safer than assuming that today's UTC offset applied in the birth year.

Read the Ovati methodology for calculation standards, privacy and uncertainty. This tool is for spiritual reflection, not medical, legal or financial decision-making.

Vedic Moon signs, clearly answered.

What is my Vedic Moon sign?

Your Vedic Moon sign, or Chandra Rashi, is the sidereal zodiac sign occupied by the Moon at your birth. Enter your birth date, local time and birthplace time zone above to calculate it.

Is my Moon sign the same as my Sun sign?

No. They come from two different celestial positions. The Sun remains in a sign much longer than the Moon.

Is Rashi always the Moon sign?

In many Jyotish contexts, Janma Rashi or Chandra Rashi refers to the Moon sign. “Rashi” by itself simply means a zodiac sign, so context matters.

Can my Moon sign change during one day?

Yes. The Moon moves into a new sign roughly every two and a half days, so a calendar date alone cannot resolve every birth reliably.
